Resumo: Em 2007 comemora-se o sesquicentenário da morte do filósofo francês Augusto Comte. A efeméride do fundador do positivismo tornou-se uma oportunidade para fazer um balanço crítico da herança filosófica, política e religiosa da obra do pensador francês e sua complexa relação com a América Latina. O livro traz também interpretações do positivismo no Brasil e as práticas política e religiosa no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul.

Abstract: It is celebrated in 2007 the sixth centenarian death anniversary of the French philosopher Auguste Comte. This has become an opportunity to a critical analysis of the philosophical, political and religious inheritance left by the founder of positivism's work and his complex relationship with Latin America. The book brings interpretations of the positivism in Brazil and the political and religious practices in Rio Grande do Sul State.
